Portugal’s most famous duo, Dead Combo, got together in 2003 to record a homage to the great portuguese guitar player Carlos Paredes.
One year later they released their first studio album titled “Vol. 1″ which gained the attention of the country’s media and audience, awarded album of the year from all influential music publications.
The late Charlie Gillett (BBC) named “Vol.1” as one of the ten year’s best albuns worldwide and chose the track “Rumbero” for his compilation CD “Sounds of the World”.
In 2006 the band released “Vol.2 – Quando a Alma Não é Pequena” and again the album was awarded record of the year. Again Charlie Gillett named it as record of the month.
“Lusitãnia Playboys” was released in 2008. With guests like Howe Gelb, Kid Congo Powers this CD/DVD was awarded record of the decade by the influential newspaper “Expresso”
Now it’s time for “Lisboa Mulata”.
Released in October 2011 the album features Marc Ribot, Camané and Alexandre Frazão as guests. It’s eleven tracks take you from Africa to South America, from Lisbon to New York, without loosing their Portuguese roots.
The band was recently featured in the Lisbon episode of the tv show “No Reservations” by Anthony Bourdain, in which besides having their music as the soundtrack of the episode, they are interviewed about their home city.
The first three albums were in the top 10 charts of the U.S.A. iTunes store at the same time.
